Tallahassee's Mission San Luis was carrying on a tradition that dates back to the Thirteenth Century on Saturday, October 3. Long lines of people and their pets came seeking blessings.
One of those bestowing the blessings inside the recreated mission church was Deacon Scott Mehr from St. Louis Catholic Parish.
"May the blessings of God be upon Luna always in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, amen," he intoned solemnly as Luna panted loudly in response.
In addition to that ceremony, Mission Executive Director Trampas Alerman also pointed out the several animal service vendors that were part of the event.
"Like the Humane Society (and) TMH Comfort Animals, just to bring awareness to the public of what's out in the community and how they can get involved, how they might rescue a pet and there are some wonderful pets here for adoption today."
A forever home, of course, being the biggest blessing any animal can receive.
